The National Awards are presented each year by APCOM, which is the Association of Print and Communication Managers, representing over 120 local authorities and public sector organisations nationwide. This year their annual Awards and Gala dinner was held at Wroxall Abbey, Warwickshire.



Mark Barlow, Head of Design and Print, carried out the duties of conference host, for a 6th year running, at the request of APCOM and was delighted when the results were announced. The award entries this year were once again high in volume and as expected, the crème de la crème. The quality of the entries, as always, was exceptional, so to win 2 of these highly acclaimed awards is a significant achievement for Blackpool Council.



The first of the two awards was for Best Cross Media, for the 3rd year running in this category, which was gained for a range of work produced for Tramway Extension Exhibition, the award trophy and certificate was presented by Clare Revell, Regional Sales Manager - Nordics, UK & Ireland at EFI to Paul Precious, Senior Administrator.


The 2nd of the two awards that the CPS Team were proud to receive was for the Best Environmental Award, for the 2nd year running. The team worked extremely hard in retaining this accolade, the Chrystal Trophy and certificate was presented to Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, by Frank Witt, Production Print Sales Consultant – AltoDigital.



CPS was also pleased to receive two further recognitions: Paul Precious collected a certificate and trophy on behalf of the team, for Runner up in the Best In-house Promotion Piece award, presented by Barrie Street, from Canon UK and was highly commended for the Best Web Site Design, presented to Nick Moss by Chris Camp, Managing Director, ePrint Direct Ltd.



This all lead up to a great evening, finishing off, with CPS taking one of the highest accolades of the night, the Runner up for “In-plant of the Year 2016”, this year being a close run race, with the winner, City and County of Swansea Council and Staffordshire Council, receiving highly commended. This award was presented by Jon Hiscock, National Channel Sales Manager - Private & Public Sector Production Print, Konica-Minolta. Members of the CPS team present to accept the award on behalf of the whole team and the council, were Mark Barlow, Head of Design and Print Services, Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer and Paul Precious, Senior Administrator.



Winning these awards and the recognition by our industry colleagues is once again, a fantastic achievement and we will continue to strive to provide the best quality and service to our customers, whilst giving best value to the council.

Blackpool School's Career Options Event January 2016
CPS continues support for local schools and academies by attending the Blackpool Schools Career Convention.

The event was once again staged over two days, located at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, with stands from various sectors of industry for further education. CPS staff were on hand over the two days to discuss printing and design and showcase some of the work that CPS has been engaged in to the students.


 

The core aims of the event are to ensure that young people understand the link between success in school and future careers and the importance of developing key employability skills valued by employers and educational institutions alike. The organisations were there to provide guidance on potential employment sectors and their related careers and promote the importance of personal skills and attributes, alongside formal qualifications, in an increasingly competitive job market. Supporting the options process, progression planning and encourage further personal research.


 

Around 1600 students, engaged in planning for their futures, visited the event over the two days and hopefully it raised their aspirations and helped them map successful career paths. The CPS stand was visited by dozens of students, interested in a career path within the industry and we were able to offer an insight into what is available.

Mark Barlow, Head of Design and Print, carried out the duties of conference host, for a 5th year running, at the request of APCOM and was delighted when the results were announced. The award entries this year were once again high in volume and as expected, the crème de la crème. The quality of the entries, as always, was exceptional, so to win 4 of these highly acclaimed awards is a significant achievement for Blackpool Council.



The first of the four awards, was for Best Cross Media, for the 2nd year running in this category, which was gained for a range of work produced for Poulton District Primary League, the award trophy and certificate was presented by Georg Hollenbach, Senior Director Sales Europe at EFI to Paul Precious, Senior Administrator.



CPS was also delighted to win, another real accolade for Blackpool CPS, was the award for the Best In-House Promotion Piece. The Award trophy and certificate were presented to Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, by Sarah Crumpler, UK Marketing Manager, Duplo International. To achieve this recognition for our promotional and marketing literature, now seven years in a row, shows what a fantastic effort the team continues to make to maintain and secure both new and repeat business.



The third of the four awards that the CPS Team were proud to receive was the award for Best Environmental Award, being runner up in 2014, previously winning it for 3 years in a row. The team worked extremely hard in gaining back this accolade, the Chrystal Trophy and certificate was presented to Paul Precious by Richard Ash, CRD National Sales Director – Ricoh.



The last of the four winning awards, was for Best Web Site Design, another award category won for the 2nd year running, presented to Nick Moss by Olivier Lebleu, Co-founder and Managing Director – Nirva Software.



CPS was also pleased to receive three further recognitions: Michael Barrow, CPS Assistant, collected a certificate and trophy on behalf of the team, for Runner up in the Digital Photography, presented by David Crichton, Account Director – Local Government. The 2nd Runner up award was for Best Finished Product, presented to Paul Precious by Gary Monaghan, Technical Sales, IFS, and lastly, CPS received a highly commended for the Best Creative Graphic Design, presented to Nick Moss, Printer, by Javed Iqbal, Production Print Sales Manager, Riso UK Ltd.



Paul Precious, Senior Administrator was also the winner of the very coveted APCOM “Employee of the Year” award, being runner up in 2014. Paul was presented with a trophy and certificate by Graham Lowe, APCOM President.



This all lead up to a great evening, finishing off, with CPS taking the highest accolade of the night, the “Inplant of the Year 2015”, for the 4th year running, this year being a close run race, with Staffordshire Council receiving runner up. This award was presented by Dale Wallis, BPIF Membership Director and Miranda Heyward, HR Director Wyndeham Group, both APCOM awards judges. The National Awards are presented each year by APCOM, which is the Association of Print and Communication Managers, representing over 130 local authorities and public sector organisations nationwide. This year their annual Awards and Gala dinner was held at Shrigley Hall, Cheshire.


Mark Barlow, Head of Design and Print, carried out the duties of conference host, for a 4th year running, at the request of APCOM and was delighted when the results were announced. The award entries this year were once again high in volume and as expected, the crème de la crème. The quality of the entries, as always, was exceptional, so to win 5 of these highly acclaimed awards is a significant achievement for Blackpool Council.



The first of the five awards, was for Best Cross Media, another first for CPS in this category, which was gained for a range of work produced for Layton Juniors Football Club, the award trophy and certificate was presented by Gerard Poppleton, Public Sector Sales Manager at Neopost to Paul Precious, Senior Administrator.

CPS was also delighted to win, another real accolade for Blackpool CPS, was the award for the Best In-House Promotion Piece. The Award trophy and certificate were presented to Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, by Chris Camp, Managing Director, ePrint Direct Ltd. To achieve this recognition for our promotional and marketing literature, now six years in a row, shows what a fantastic effort the team continues to make to maintain and secure both new and repeat business.

The third of the five awards that the CPS Team were proud to receive was the award for Best Creative Graphic Design award, last won by Blackpool in 2010. The Award trophy and certificate were presented to Nick Moss, by Trevor Holmes, Funasset Ltd.

Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, was also presented with the fourth award, Best Digital Photography Award, presented by Mike Parker, Account Manager, Essentra.

The last of the five winning awards, was for Best Web Site Design, a new category for APCOM, the certificate and trophy was collected on behalf of Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, by Paul Precious, presented by Gavin Harbour, Business Manager (Local Government & Higher Education), Xerox (UK) Ltd.

CPS were also pleased to receive three further recognitions: Andrew Barton, Printer, collected a certificate and trophy on behalf of the team, for Runner up in the Best Full Colour – Digital, presented by Mark Hinder, Market Development Manager PPD, Konica-Minolta. The 2nd Runner up award was for Best Finished Product, presented to Paul Precious, Senior Administrator by Gary Monaghan, Technical Sales, IFS, and lastly, the 3rd Runner up, was for the Best Environmental Award, previously won three years in a row, this year presented to Andrew Barton, Printer, by Javed Iqbal, Production Print Sales Manager, Riso UK Ltd.

Paul Precious, Senior Administrator was also a runner up for the APCOM “Employee of the Year” award, narrowly missing out to Tom Hurst - Agilisys - Document Solutions. Paul was presented with a trophy and certificate by Georg Hollenbach, Snr Director Sales Europe, EFI.

The first award of thea four awards was for Best Full Colour – Digital, a first for CPS in this category, which gained for work produced on the sections Konica-Minolta C7000 Bizhub Press, the award trophy and certificate was present by Andy Merritt, National Sales Manager Government CRD at Canon UK to Paul Precious, Senior Administrator.


CPS was also delighted to win the Best Environmental Award, for the 3rd year running, the team worked extremely hard in achieving this accolade once again and the Chrystal Trophy and certificate was presented by Gavin Harbour, LEO Business Manager - Public Sector at Xerox (UK) Ltd.

To achieve this recognition for our promotional and marketing literature, now five years in a row, shows what a fantastic effort the team continues to make to maintain and secure both new and repeat business, which this year was also backed up by our new and revamped Intranet and Internet site, aimed at both internal and external clients.


CPS were also pleased to receive two further recognitions, Kevin O’Hara collected a certificate and trophy on behalf of the team, for Runner up in the Best Wide Format, a new category for the APCOM awards this year, presented by Mike Bennett, Retired APCOM Member (Dorset Council). The 2nd Runner up award was for Best Cross Media, presented by Mark Hinder, Market Development Manager, Konica-Minolta, to Paul Precious.


This all lead up to a great evening, finishing off, with CPS taking the highest accolade of the night, the “Inplant of the Year 2013”, which was presented by Dale Wallis, BPIF Membership Director and independent judging panel chairman. CPS were also pleased to receive three further recognitions, Kevin O’Hara collected a certificate and trophy, on behalf of Paul Precious (Senior Admin Assistant), for Runner up in the Best Use of Design/Print in a Campaign or Event, a new category for the APCOM awards, presented by Graham Waghorn, Head of Public Sector, Pitney Bowes. CPS also received a highly commended award for Best Variable Data Printing, presented by Giles Hill, Managing Director at Sefas Innovation Ltd.


Finally, and a great achievement for a member of the CPS Team, Andrew Woodward, CPS Assistant, who won the APCOM Employee of the Year Award 2012, presented by Martin Dean, Sales Director, Danwood. This award is not given lightly and was based on a written entry and also a personal interview, in which Andrew excelled above all the other entrants.

Having a kit for a child means they are part of a team, an identity and belonging, it also stops any prejudice of professional football teams they may support, they are as one. To the club it takes huge financial pressure away, the more sponsorship they get, they can pass on to the parents by not increasing subscriptions, therefore money can be spent elsewhere improving facilities and purchasing equipment.

HERO is a community interest company that has been working with young people in Blackpool for the last 4 years. Each year, HERO hosts an awards scheme and ceremony to celebrate the achievements of young people in enterprise. This year the ceremony will take place on Thursday 30th June. Through work with schools, employers and other organisations, the HERO project helps develop employability skills, and raise aspirations in young people. We work to help develop a young generation of entrepreneurial young people who would be an asset to any company. The award ceremony itself offers some great speakers and inspirational stories.


For those who have attended in previous years they promise the usual great mix of celebration and inspiration and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Mark Barlow, Head of Print and Design, carried out the duties of conference host at the request of APCOM and was delighted when the results were announced. The competition was high and a record number of entries were received, so to win 2 of these highly acclaimed awards is a significant achievement for Blackpool Council.



CPS was delighted to win the Best Environmental Award, after receiving a Highly Commended in 2010, breaking our previous record of winning this category 5 years in a row, the team worked extremely hard in achieving this accolade once again and the Chrystal Trophy and certificate was presented by Mark Wilson, Business Development Director at Ricoh UK to one of our Graphic Designers, Stephen Donnelly, who had been the main project leader in this category.



The second of the two awards that the CPS Team were proud to receive, was the award for the Best In-House Promotion Piece. The Award trophy and certificate were presented to Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, by Andrew Waterworth, Regional Manager at Océ. To achieve this recognition for our promotional and marketing literature for three years in a row, shows what a fantastic effort the team continues to make to maintain and secure both new and repeat business, which this year was also backed up by our new and revamped Intranet and Internet site, aimed at both internal and external clients.



CPS were also pleased to receive three further recognitions, Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, was given a trophy and certificate for Runner up in the Best Digital Photography Award, presented by Alan Christie, Business Development Director at Altman Technologies Ltd. Finally, CPS also received two highly commended awards, the first being for the Best Creative Graphic Design Award, presented by Giles Hill, Managing Director at Sefas Innovation Ltd and the second, Best Full Colour Work – Digital, sponsored and presented by Nick Hancock, Business Development Manager at Konica-Minolta.

Several North West Regional YMP’s from Blackpool Council were invited to present the £1,000 cheque at Blackpool Airport to the crew of the North West Air Ambulance, it was a great achievement for the YMP’s and the NWAA were thrilled with the amount raised. The raffle, the fines and the collections all contributed to raising this money and it will certainly be put to good use.


The charity provides care from the air every day of the year with fully equipped helicopters carrying specially trained paramedics to attend people with life-threatening injuries or illnesses.

The Awards featured were three of ten award categories at APCOM's recent annual Awards and Gala dinner, which celebrates success and innovation within the Public Sectors' expanding design and print community.


APCOM - Association of Print and Communication Managers, consists of over 130 Public Sector in-plant organisations held it's annual conference, awards and AGM here in Blackpool at the Barceló Imperial Hotel at the end of April and the event was a great success, both for Blackpool Town and also for CPS. During the event, over £1300 was raised for the Mayor's Charities and it also highlighted what the town has to offer, both as a holiday resort and conference centre. Many delegates and sponsors where delighted with the venue and town and promised to return!


The first of the three awards, that the CPS Team were proud to receive, was the award for the Best In-House Promotion Piece, sponsored by Xerox (UK) Ltd. The Award trophy and certificate were presented to Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer, by Ronnie Conway, Bids and Tenders General Manager. To achieve this recognition for our promotional and marketing literature shows what a fantastic effort the team makes to maintain and secure both new and repeat business. This is also backed up by our own Intranet and Internet site, on which we also market the section and have on-line ordering facilities.


Secondly, the award for Best Use of Digital Photography, sponsored by Canon UK Ltd. The winning certificate and trophy were once again presented to our Senior Graphic Designer, Nick Moss, by David Crichton, Sector Director. Nick produced a variety of pieces of work for this category and was extremely pleased about the result.


Finally, the third award was for Best Creative Graphic Design, which was sponsored by Konica-Minolta. The prestigious Award trophy was presented by Mike Ashforth, Regional Manager - Production Print. This was another fantastic achievement and a great return from 2008, when we won the same category, our team were determined to get this award back once again and succeeded.


CPS were also pleased to receive a further recognitions, Daryl Brown, Graphic Designer, was given a trophy and certificate for Runner up in the Trainee of the Year category, just missing out on a fabulous 4 day Vegas Trip. CPS also received a highly commended for the Environmental Awareness Award, which was gracefully accepted by Kevin O'Hara, Senior Printer. This award is one of the most highly coveted and CPS has managed to win it for the last 5 years running, so were very happy to see more competition in this area and are looking forward to a challenge in next years event.


Winning these 3 awards and the recognition by our industry colleagues, is a fantastic achievement and only goes to show that through the sheer hard work of the team and the continued implementation of our ISO 9001:2000 accreditation, we are doing something right. With our continued attention to quality and good design standards in place, we can only move forward and upwards, proving that we are committed to quality, high standards and most of all, to our customers.

CPS was delighted to, once again, win the APCOM highly coveted Award for Best Environmental Awareness 2009, at the Annual Conference of APCOM (Association of Print and Communication Managers), held this year in Kirklees (Huddersfield). The Crystal trophy and certificate where presented to Kevin O’Hara, Senior Printer of Corporate Print Services.


The second of the four awards, was for Best 1, 2 or 3 Colour Work - Litho or Digital, which was presented to one of our CPS Assistants, Andrew Woodward. Third award was for the Best In-House Promotion Piece. The Award trophy and certificate were presented to Nick Moss, Senior Graphic Designer.


Finally, the fourth award that CPS received was for Best Use of Digital Photography Award, the winning certificate and trophy were presented to one of our Graphic Designers, Daryl Brown. The Awards featured were four of nine award categories at APCOM's recent annual Awards and Gala dinner, which celebrates success and innovation within the Public Sectors' expanding design and print community.
